Folkestone's biggest music venue, Official site here. Seems to get called the Leas Cliffe Hall quite a bit, like it is ye olde venueueue... See mentions of Leas Cliff Pavillion too, a mix up with this and the East Cliffs Pavillion I think.
The bar is far too busy when there's any sort of event on, have a drink before you go. They will try and stop you taking drinks from the bar into the performance too, but will eventually surrender to the masses by the end of the interval.
Get tickets here for all events, or if it's a sold out even you're after try these guys. Good luck!
I been here! See more in my gigography.
There's probably more going on in Folkestone than I think, but we don't often get anything good at the main big venue the Leas Cliff Hall. That changed ten years ago this day, The Mighty Boosh came to town. I did review it at the time, that's how long this website's been going, crikey. I don't have many contemporary writings of my twenty years ago stuff that I've been rediscovering.

We're off to The Darkness next week. First time I've said this in a good dozen years I'm sure! It's at the Leas Cliff Hall, and I'm sure it'll be great.
Exciting stuff my sometime favourite band The Darkness are returning to the Leas Cliff Hall on the 8th December. Tickets probably on sale now!
Just Announced! East-Anglian rock-based-pop-music-band The Darkness are arriving at Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone, this December. Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of their legendary number one debut album Permission To Land - which featured the classics, Get Your Hands Off My Woman and I Believe In a Thing Called Love and garnered the band 3 Brit Awards - The Darkness will play the record in full alongside their hits from the subsequent two top ten albums One Way Ticket To Hell And Back and last years Hot Cakes.Do you remember when they were my favourite ever thing, ever? They were like the Nick Helm of their day. Anyway, excited, I hope we can go.
Really enjoyed the new Jonathan Creek last night, although it was absolutely ludicrous. And now I see Alan Davies is coming to Folkestone on November 16th. This is the Life Is Pain show, that we saw in Edinburgh donchaknow, so I don't suppose we'll go and see it again.
Packed with more food and laughs... a sprinkling of special guests* you all know and love, and a chance for some of our lucky audience members to enjoy a slap up meal on stage courtesy of the (Hairy) chefs.

Oh, not My Life Story, but Suggs out of Madness doing a one man show:
Not his first visit to Folkestone, wonder if he remembers? Anyway, ACE, you should go.

This from last.fm:
Can't find anything about a support band anywhere, but apparently DJ Alexander Milas from Metal Hammer was the support for the Birmingham gig, and is also the support for the Oxford gig....
Wow, on sale 10am Friday morning, the prince of darkness is coming back to Folkestone... Updates on @officialozzy \m/
Details and tickets will be here, on sale Friday. Blimey!
London's N-Dubz go on tour through the UK in April. Bet there's a fight at this one too...
Read it here. I was at the gig, I was not in the fight. Sorry I have not written my review yet (of the gig or the fight) been busy.
Dave Gorman tickets for 24/02/2010
Not my cuppa tea, but blimey sold out. Is it all the people who like her off Strictly Come Dancing bought the tickets?
It says here... Hmm seems to have been the fairly recent takeover by Live Nation that brought bands of the "standard" of Stereophonics, Kings of Leon, Pete Doherty, David Gray and the Kooks, I wonder if we'll see more musical theatre or something now?
Again using a quote from someone else as a headline, how unimaginative... Get Me In say Lee Mack is "highly regarded in industry circles as one of comedy's most exciting new prospects". Highly regarded yes, but "new prospect", really? He has been on TV for ages! He's in the original radio series of The Mighty Boosh too, check it out...
this might be quite good! Paul Merton and chums.
Her off Strictly. You're welcome! [ticket]Alesha Dixon[/ticket]
Editors play Folkestone on the 23rd March, tickets might be available from the box office, can't find them online right now. That'll be a good one!
Hi I have just been looking at the Leas Cliff Hall archive gig list and could not see a mention of a date that I gigged there. I played drums in a little known band called Scruff supporting Japan and then Jim Capaldi, all on the same night. Not sure of the date but it would be [year]1977[/year],[year=1978]78[/year] or [year=1979]79[/year] possibly [year=1980]80[/year]. Oh, and we also supported a Dutch band called Boozie during the same period. I would imagine you are a busy people, but if you could find any details of these gigs.... well, I'd be over the moon. Kind Regards Paul Davey

I saw The Herd in 1968 and I played in the Support band "The Circuit" with Rod Jones Guitar, Les Peel Vocals, Mick Wilkins Bass, and me Dave Shackle drums. Happy Days.
I saw Big Country in 1989 and it was my first 'proper' gig! Got the arms ripped off my plaid shirt!!! Rock on, still got Tony Butlers plectrum!
Heard so much amazing stuff about this show, can't wait to see it! Roll on 13th March!
I saw Sasafrass in 1975 and saw them quite alot durying the 70s, whatever happen to them
Still getting lots of searches for this sort of nonsense here:
I saw Motorhead in 2004 and the after show party was in The Chambers. Both Lemmy and co long with Brazillian support band Sepultura were in there for a beer.
A real band, playing the LCH and it's a Friday night, and probably your pay day too, get in!

Lawks, is it some sort of warm up? I don't like them but it's a big deal for Folkestone I suppose. Get in! Getting tickets just in case the support is good. Ooh, SOLD OUT already!

Hi Gerald, do you have any details of the Summer Season show at the Leas Cliff in [year]1974[/year] with Gordon & Bunny Jay?
The gig on Friday was halted apparently because of fighting in the crowd! When the scrappers were eventually removed from the hall they were shouting threats back at Mr Gray.

Andy Rourke (of the Smiths) joined Ian Brown (of the Stone Roses live on stage at the Leas Cliff Hall last night by all accounts (I think I first read this on kentnews.co.uk, but it's gone now). Also, someone got chucked out. [reply]Was it you?[/reply]

review here in the Independent, I'd have loved to have gone to this, don't feel I can manage gigs in the week now, I'm too old!
Get in touch quick, fg@folkestonegerald.com I have two spare tickets for tonight's sold out show.
"Groundbreaking" '80s acts, Martin Fry and ABC, Howard Jones and Toyah Wilcox...
Howd, me clowse, down't let me gow, ow now. Hmm, am I making him sound brummy? How long before Leo Sayer is back at the LCH that's what I want to know...

Bruford and Howe couldn't get babysitters. Yes acoustic, and LOOK OUT the date has changed from the 3rd...
Another bizarrely recurring event at Folkestone. We like blue comedy, psychics, and cocks apparently.
Crazy hair, crazy guy. Very funny comedy btw, will there be young people dressed up again?
Great review and pictures of a Folkestone T-Rex gig, unfortunately it's all in German. Maybe I will translate it...
Alternates visits to the LCH with rival tribute act "One Night Of Queen". HEY, this is the band we saw at the Zurich Rugby final!
Do we need reminding of the World Cup again already? Tickets are ON SALE NOW, 2nd of October it is then...
Get in quick, though there may be [ebay=orson tickets]more Orson tickets here[/ebay]. Found these while browsing for [ebay=folkestone tickets]tickets for sold out gigs in Folkestone[/ebay]...

Dirty Pretty Things tickets are on sale now, they're coming to us on the 15th of December... this is former Libertine Carl Barat and it's sure to sell out like SNAP that.
Cheeky tiny warmup tour of seaside resorts, and they picked us! Sold out very fast indeed.

The Independent has a profile of The Zutons, where they were interviewed in The Leas Cliff Hall. The interviewer describes the dressing room as "squalid", that's about the highlight of it. Read on...
Is there some kind of indie pop revival? Not my cup of tea, but sure to join the recent trend of LCH sell outs...
Seems to alternate visits to the LCH with rival tribute act "Magic - A Kind Of Queen"
Can't wait until September,Jane was fantastic last time she visited Folkestone, must be the most underrated performer that doesn't appear on TV.Her warmth just wins everbody over I have become quite a fan of her song writting which is super.Lucy Dale.
I knew about it in plenty of time to get tickets, and I blew it!
Heard on that the gig's sold out - IT'S NOT, [[http://www.wayahead.com/livegigpopex/price.asp?filler1=livegigpopex&code=178722 get Zutons tickets here. The gig's on the 25th of May.
The Trivium gig sounds like it was great, just seen this post on onfolkestone.co.uk:
Liked a few Bloodsimple songs, God Forbid were immense but Trivium damn well ruled, they had power and alot of control.2006-03-23
From Florida, looks a bit hard metal to me, are they? Plus God Forbid + Bloodsimple
Paddy McGuinness star of Max and Paddy's Road To Nowhere and Phoenix Nights brings his show to the Leas Cliff Hall on Monday September 25th. This is apparently your last chance to catch Paddy live on his first solo tour before the DVD is released and he hang up the mic for a wee while... Last chance / first tour / last tour / eh? It's got to be worth a look, though bear in mind it's a 16s and over show, sound like there might be a bit of blue for the dads! Also, I know what you're going to ask, and yes Peter Kay has spontaneously joined him on stage before. This was probably up North though, can't see him trecking all the way down to the coast.
Ember & The Infernos play London Islington Academy on the 22nd of March, that's Trivium under a "secret" name.
The ABBA story - so actually a story, or just a tribute show? We have tickets for this, if you want them I would think you can have them for free...
folkestonegerald.com/folkestone/upload/Forbach_final_poster.jpg We are quite lucky to have an opportunity like this because the orchestra, consisting of 85 musicians, are currently French National Champions at their class and the conductor is internationally recognized. They are putting on the concert free of charge, because the trip has been organized themselves, funded by Forbach (The French town they represent). In addition to this, we have successfully applied to use the Leas Cliff Hall free of charge for the day. Therefore the 1 entrance fee will cover the promotional costs and any extra will go towards providing refreshments for the orchestra. I hope that by offering this type of event at such a low price, everyone will have the opportunity to attend.
Bit of anecdotal gig history from Nazareth Direct... hanging off the ceiling? Really?
Top notch cult TV comedy! Returns only now I think. Looking forward to this one a lot
Someone on mrgig.com says "I officialy bought the last ticket for the Ordinary Boys gig yesterday. I tried to buy two but there was only one left". So it's long sold out, what did I tell you? There's always a slim chance of returns or try for Ordinary Boys Tickets on ebay... Wish I'd bought a dozen now.
Get in! Expect to see a wordy preview of the gig just after it sells out in the Folkestone Herald. That's not my style. If you like them, I suggest you get tickets now, if you don't, I would say don't go. I think I'm not going to go. Have a nice time if you do.
Get Ordinary Boystickets here or stroll down there a bit sharpish, with all this Big Brother stuff going on these will sell out fast. There will be more girls in the audience than usual for a Folkestone gig I guess! Delirious-question-mark are coming too, just confirmed. Christian Rock, loving it. I went to a show of theirs at Shepherds Bush Empire once, the weirdest crowd EVER.
I love Hard Fi but I'm sure my neighbours hate me. I'm 43 of Afro Carib descent and have been playing the CD non stop ever since I got it (might even get served with an ASBO). I've got to say though I never really noticed the CCTV signs before until I bought the CD and as I work in the IP section of a law firm (legal jargon for copyrights, patents etc) I hope the guys have sorted out who owns the sign and got permission for using it!!!! If not then they can come here and I'm sure the firm will be happy to represent them (well I would anyway)!!!!
Carter played the week before I think. Eat supported James - unless there was a later gig. I saw Mercury Rev at the LCH in the early 90s too - think they may have supported Ride
Wide faced TV sarcast comes to town, Saturday 29th of April...
Not sure how this hasn't come up on the listings yet but cult TV extravaganza The Mighty Boosh is coming to the leas cliff hall | LCH in February... Most other dates on the tour have already sold out, so get in quick!
Shifted from the Tuesday to make room for Primal Scream. Fantastic jazz apparently.
I saw Dr Feelgood in 1989 and it ruined my hearing - tinnitus and partial deafness. Feel Good(not)?
I was just about to buy some Primal Scream tickets here, but I think Ticketmaster are having a laugh with their delivery options. Not only is there a 3 pound per ticket booking fee, they want a fiver for postage (fair enough, it's special delivery) OR TWO POUND FIFTY IF I COLLECT THE TICKETS IN PERSON!
They really are doing a one of show at the Leas Cliff Hall for some reason, nice one!
Folkestone was discussed in the office today (in that London), Chris Barber Band are Very Good as jazz goes apparently... But! Is this being bumped off by Primal Scream? That's what I've heard today. This is probably a good thing for Folkestone, Primal Scream are not what they once were, but it's still high profile and contemporary! tickets are on sale here, seems Folkestone is the ONLY date. What's that all about? Ah well see you there...
BBC says Goldie Lookin' Chain are supporting The Darkness on their Portsmouth and Folkestone dates, got to get in!
Trivium are Matt Heafy (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Corey Beaulieu (Guitars, Vocals), Travis Smith (Drums), and Paolo Gregoletto (Bass, Vocals), from Florida, USA. Anyone know more about them? They're on Roadrunner Records, so I'm guessing they're a bit heavy.
Friday 16th December, isn't everyone normally at some Pogues reunion show in London around this time though? Blimey though, proper contemporary pop, LCH you are spoiling us!
It was around Summer 1989 and they were great. I must've caught one of their eyes (ouch) as I was personally invited back stage. I crept off (unbeknownst to my then boyfriend 'Bones') and innocently went back stage when they;d finished the gig. The first thing after asking my name was to offer me abig fat Bob Marley (spliff) I na do dat ting, I said, had a sip of one of their beers and got hastily rushed off by my x's sister, whod'd come looking for me as 'Bones' was worried because I'd dissappeared! Needless to say it was a memorable gig and Aswad were tops!
Supergrass are back in Folkestone on the 20th October, promoting their ace new album The Road To Rouen. It will sell out. Who will get me in for free? Maybe I will review it!
This is on the 14th July, featuring sets from APV, Tortilla Army, Liquid Fool, and 3dBs Down as part of the Charivari Music Weekend. ... More info I'm sure at mrgig.com.
Rock-with-trumpets merchants Reel Big Fish are coming to Folkestone on the 20th September...
Did you know that you have the wrong telephone number on your site
Queen tribute show... Is this the one with the chap from Stars in their Eyes in it?
FFAF are at the Leas Cliff Hall on the 3rd of July. Contemporary rock, some mistake surely..? Support comes from Bullet for my Valentine.
Oh it's not just bands from the 80s that come to Folkestone, now we're going back to the 1960's Donovan comes to Folkestone on the 12th of May.
Just noticed there's a Queen tribute show at the Leas Cliff Hall on the 2nd of April, a lot of my friends seem to have been to this in different parts of the country recently, and up until now I've resisted...
Viewed from the underneath of course... hope the cover shows up here, otherwise check it out on Amazon...
CANCELLED!!! Do you remember howling them off the stage when they supported The Darkness last January? Well, they're BACK! You knows it. Update: oh no they're not, it's cancelled...
Looks like Goldie Lookin' Chain have cancelled tonight at the Leas Cliff Hall, when did this happen? Is it apathy on the part of the punters, or is it (as I heard) that the band refused to play because of the reaction they got when they supported The Darkness just over a year ago..?
Hmm, that's apparently what Danny Mcnamara said about the Leas Cliff Hall when Embrace came to Folkestone...
I saw AC/DC in 1976 and AC/DC didnt play. I travelled down from Gravesend. I believe that the gig was cancelled by the council who didnt agree with Angus dropping his shorts!!! The replacement act was The Real Thing (and they weren't)
The Idlewilds have announced a tour, visiting Folkestone on the 13th of April... they've got a new album out too, and by golly does it sound like REM... full dates are:
Here's an odd one, it's TV's The Keith Barret starring Rob Brydon, but LIVE, at the Leas Cliff Hall... 28th May, tickets here...
23rd Feb sees Tony Hadly vs Martin Fry at the Leas Cliff Hall. In some sort of fight I hope, wrestlemania, and not singing. What do you reckon?
22nd February, more details here... Tickets are here...
Nick Heyward, Toyah, Curiosity Killed The Cat and Altered Images. CLARE GROGAN!!! NOING!
Been a bit slow off the mark on this one, but Whitesnake are playing Leas Cliff Hall on November 24th, the day after Motorhead... 32 QUID??? Will it attract much the same audience, is Folkestone big enough to support these two events in a row..?
Drugs-TASTIC, you and me and the guy from Sparks, hanging out with Howard Marks!
I didn't go to this, but thought I'd point out that I think James were the support and Thousand Yard Stare were the headliners this time around... oh sit down, oh sit down, oh shut the fuck up...
Only been to one gig there, I am new to the area, that was The Darkness earlier this year, with the might Goldie Lookin' Chain in support... my girlfriend's from the area, she's seen loads there.
An audience with Greavesie, plus Ron 'Chopper' Harris and compere Terry Baker.
They still going? The Female of the Species, and all that... I think the ginger one might have left.
I knew there was a recruitment fair at The Leas Cliff Hall last week, but no-one told me there would be VIP guests. Apparently they asked all the other local celebs (Vic Reeves, Lily Savage, Dot Cotton, seem to have missed me) if they could come and open it, but all busy, so The Cheeky Girls did it. They live locally, and did it for free, on the condition they could play their new single Cheeky Flamenco, is this normal at a provincial job fair?
this gig wasn't at the LCH, it was at a theatre in Sandgate Road that's now the Boots store ;)
I saw Motorhead in 1987 and it was a cracking gig. We also got to meet Lemmy and the boys before the gig. Very friendly blokes - I've still got the leather album sleeve that they all signed for me !
Embrace have shot into the hit parade with a number one album this week, but remarkably there are still tickets left to see them at Leas Cliff Hall.
Crazy hobbit loving one time front man of Black Sabbath -Folkestone, are you READY TO ROCK???
FHODS pantomime this year ([year]2004[/year]) is Aladdin, and it starts on the 14th January 2005. Oh no it doesn't! Oh yes it does, get tickets for all performances here...

The Thrills play Leas Cliff Hall on Tuesday 9th November, tickets are 13.50, get them here, or check out folkestonegerald.com for more details...
Are they still going? They're playing the Leas Cliff Hall on the 7th of October, see the calendar for more info.
Genuine spat with his ex-girlfriend? Or a couple of stage school brats put up to it by the label? You decide... Only 17.50 to you squire! He's opening for Britney Spears in the US of States you know...
Having seen Greavesie on Fantasy Football this week, I am reminded that the man himself Jimmy Greaves is coming to Folkestone... An Audience with Jimmy Greaves comes to the Leas Cliff Hall on the 14th of October, and then within the same week we have Howard Marks and then Kevin Bloody Wilson at the same venue...
Very nice to see contemporary bands coming to town, two in two days, how will people afford it, bit steep!
Medium type from the "Most Haunted" TV show. I'm a medium, it says so on my vest.
Someone on the onfolkestone forum says "i just remember luis lozano on stage! and throwing wheatos at wheatus... we were a sad sad bunch... hmmm
The Premier Tour, plus Sheep on Drugs. Some sort of "incident" saw them off the tour after this date.

ex Genesis. Actually listed as "Leas Cliff Pavillion" is there such a place?
Last minute replacement for AC/DC, who the council disagreed with. Hardly seems a fair swap!
They played Camden Roundhouse the next day with Babe Ruth and Stray. Nope, me either.
Mistakenly originally spelled Sasafrass, sorry, think I got that from a Leas Cliff Hall poster from 1975.
Their first of many visits according to Clive Arnold writing in Go Folkestone.
