It's been cut down, but where is it going next? It's been taken for "safe keeping" by Robin Barton an art dealer who specialises in asset stripping Banksy artworks like this. Who knows, maybe he even is Banksy, that would be fair and make sense. I guess he's just a tailcoat grabber following the gold rush though. The art work is owned by Dreamland Amusements (the Godden family) so it's up to them what happens next, it could be sold and go anywhere. Maybe someone local will buy it and it could stay locally? Would be outrageous for anyone in Folkestone to have to stump up a quarter of a million or more though to keep something in the area that was on the streets of Folkestone for all to enjoy for free though, it is an odd one.
The Godden family say (I saw it on kentonline or folkestoneherald) that the profits will go to the Jimmy Godden cancer charity. Would be nice if they just contributed something to the town though.
This is my site The Folkestone Gerald that I built in a fury of enthusiasm when we first moved to Folkestone in approximately 2004. I'd been a frequent visitor for a while previous to that so I am technically one of those Down From Londons you get now. The site was updated more frequently with a calendar of events and voting for favourite places and stuff, and I hear it was a useful reference for those who were moving to the area. Now I've moved out of Folkestone again (though just to Hythe) it doesn't get as much attention as it used to. Ironic really as The town is becoming the exciting place we always thought it was about to become. I am not Gerald by the way, this comes from a pretend paper in an episode of Brasseye or something, the Portsmouth Gerald, and how there is a local paper here called the Folkestone Herald. Puns like this are GRATE aren't they? Do get in touch if you have anything to offer, email anythign @ this domain, or try @folkestone or @pauly on the twitter.
