The Guardian has the story about the Folkestone bullet trains, and confirms the idea that they'll only be ready for 2009:
The timetable for the trains has slipped by two years. The Strategic Rail Authority hoped to launch local services by the time the Channel tunnel rail link carries Eurostar trains to London's St Pancras station in 2007.
Read the rest of the story for more, all the papers are likely to be running this... can I wait until 2009 for property prices to boom though?
Oh, also:
Roger Ford, the technical editor of Modern Railways magazine, said: "These are not really bullet trains. They're electric multiple units with a sexy front end."
This is part of my site The FG that I built in a fury of excitement when we first moved here in approximately 2004. I'd been a frequent visitor for a few years before that so I am technically one of those DFLs you get nowadays. The site was updated more frequently with a calendar of events and voting for favourite venues and stuff, and I know it was a useful reference for those who were thinking of moving to the area. Now I've moved out of Folkestone again (though just to Hythe) it doesn't get as much attention as it used to. Ironic really as The town is becoming the exciting place we always thought it was about to become. My name is not Gerald BTW, this comes from a fake newspaper in an episode of The Day Today or something, the Portsmouth Gerald, and how there is a local paper here called the Folkestone Herald. Puns like this are GRATE aren't they? Do get in touch if you have something to offer, email anythign @ this domain, or try @folkestone or @pauly on Twitter.
