Just walked past there too, and it was cunningly disguised as the place I would like to go to LEAST in the world. St George flags everywhere and a big banner advertising Sky Sports. I know a St George cross should not have any negative connotations, and we non racists should be reclaiming it, and if everyone can wear guinness hats and shamrock pants on St Patricks day then why the hell not, but it somehow didn't appeal. I see the flags and the offer of sports and I am put in mind only of a hub of soccer violence on a sink estate...
Happy St Georges day to you all, and good luck to Gate 28. Reckon I will be back for a vino collapso and a nice sit down one day when all the paraphernalia has been put away.
(Still walking the streets of Sandgate so you don't have to...)
This is my site The 'Gerald that I built in a fury of enthusiasm when we first moved here in approximately '04. I'd been a frequent visitor for a while before that but I am technically one of those Down From Londons you get nowadays. The site was updated more frequently with a gig calendar and voting for favourite venues and stuff, and I know it was a useful reference for others who were moving here. Now I've moved out of Folkestone again (though just to Hythe) it doesn't get as much attention as it used to. Ironic really as The town is now becoming the exciting place we always thought it was just about to. I am not Gerald by the way, this comes from a pretend paper in an episode of The Day Today or something, the Portsmouth Gerald, and how there is a local newspaper here called the Folkestone Herald. Puns like this are GRATE aren't they? Do get in touch if you have anything to contribute, email anythign @ this domain, or try @folkestone or @pauly on Twitter.
